Thanks for this, Nik, I like his advice a lot - except the part about telling the reader as much information as possible as soon as possible. I don't think I'd keep reading a short story if I got told everything up front. What would be the point??

Great stuff. bet I don't do loads of it, though!
Excellent video, and to the point. I think that advice applies to novels as well as short stories.
Loved it. Thanks.
Now I'm off to drag my Vonnegut shorts from the shelf to see if he followed his own advice ;-)
Cheers,
Bob

Interesting - thanks.
brilliant, loved this... (not sure about the soundtrack...!)
Brilliant.
I especially love no.5
And 6 (-;
This is fabulous. Thanks so much for finding it!!
Thankyou, thankyou. That was perfect. So convincing, reassuring. Memorable.I'll be back for another slice of that.
Good stuff! Thanks for posting it.
Thanks for your comments, folks. Glad you found it of use.
Bob - did you and did he?
Tania - good point. I think what he was getting at (well, how I've interpreted it) was more of a: Get On With The Story All Ready!! thing.
Annie, hmm, yes. I have no idea why that soundtrack is appropriate!
Megan - 5's my favourite as well.
Thanks again, one and all.
Nik
PS Lost Wanderer, I agree - I think it's appropriate to stories, no matter how big they are, or complicated.
Oh what fun,
and I love the "should cockroaches eat the last few pages" bit!
