Stories + Moving Pictures

I'm a pretty big fan of stories. This should not surprise you, I know. And I don't only mean written ones. Stories are everywhere: in life, on the streets of towns and cities and in people's houses and heads; they're in films and on radio and just about everywhere. And that's exciting. Mostly, because a lot of them are waiting and wanting to be found.

But today, I'd like to focus on films. I don't watch as many films as I should (not a conscious decision, it's just how things are) and I thought I'd mention a few I've watched recently that I've thought excellent and that you may just want to check, if you've not done already. (Actually, if you have, it's nice to know what you thought...)

So...

and an old favourite

Hey man,
Thanks for bringing Wendy and Lucy to my attention, it looks amazing and like my kind of film.

Juno is alright, I really like watching it but in the background. The dialogue can be grating but it is not too serious and I like the cast.

Into The Wild, oh god what a film. I couldn't speak for quite some time after it ended. Brilliant but heartbreaking.

Pan's Labyrinth is magnificent. Say no more.

Have you seen the Tracey Fragments? Brilliant canadian movie that is quite difficult to watch but an amazing example of experimental storytelling.

Hey Alex

I'll definitely look up Tracey Fragments, on you recommendation.

And I think Wendy and Lucy *may* be my fave of that bunch - it's excellent in pretty much every way (and I'm quite the Michelle Williams fan, ahem). Love to get your thoughts once you've seen it

Nik, Some nice choices there. Did you ever get to see the Etgar Keret one? I haven't caught up with it yet, but keep meaning too.

Serendipity here: I'm going to a workshop on Saturday to find out how to turn my short stories into short films. Really looking forward to it. Info here:

Neil - $9.99 is excellent - definitely worth seeing even if you're not a Keret fan.

And turning shorts into a different medium is something I think I'll always find interesting - sounds like great fun. Hope you enjoy it!
